The Hunger

Vampires are having their day -- from teen literature to leading tv shows -- but no modern interpretation has or will ever strike a chord with us like Tony Scott's 1983 cult-classic, The Hunger. David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve star as a vampire couple living in NYC with a sexy young Susan Sarandon as the object of their affections. The soundtrack, featuring Schubert and Bauhaus and lots in between, plus a generous helping of stylish eighties elements make for an addictive movie that we turn to again and again. We hear Hollywood is attempting a remake....we all know how that will turn out. [More]

Last but not least we introduce our video of the Hockney, shot in and around the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, CA. The Bailey video/contest

New York City in the 80’s saw a culture clash that would shape our future. Reggae met hip-hop and gave birth to Dancehall which gave birth to a whole new level of dressing – English style by way of the West Indies, redefined in Brooklyn. The Bailey by Clae pays homage to Gil Bailey, “the Godfather” DJ and voice of Caribbean radio in New York City who has been educating and entertaining Saturday morning listeners for more than 40 years.

With roots in a fine lineage of casual shoes, the Bailey retains the essence of its predecessors while pushing its boundaries forward. Featuring supple leather and nubuck, refined toe detail, athletic-inspired touches like perforated leather, and modern cup sole construction, the Bailey is a shoe with uncommon mobility and comfort. Easy.

SHOE GIVEAWAY
To celebrate Gil Bailey and one of our favorite analog pleasures, the radio – we’re running a contest. From Phil Schapp's Thelonious Monk birthday celebration broadcast on WKCR, Rap Attack on Friday nights with Mr. Magic and Marley Marl on WBLS, DJ Red Alert on KISSFM, those late thrusday nights on WKCR with Stretch and Bobitto and all of the memorable Saturday mornings with Bailey, what’s playing on the radio has often provided much of the soundtrack of our lives.

We want to hear your personal, favorite radio moment. To enter, tweet us your answers at @clae_footwear or leave a comment on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/CLAE-Footwear/216550520609 and we’ll pick the top three submissions and announce them on May 23. Winners will receive a pair of Baileys (color of your choice).

Land of Look Behind

Today marks the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley's passing. His life brings to mind a film titled "Land of Look Behind," released in 1982. For the filmmakers, a project that began as a desire to document Bob Marley's funeral procession through Kingston, Jamaica developed into a passion project that portrayed the people, the culture, and the magical spirit of Jamaica in a way that has never been seen before. The film's stunning cinematography and unique vision inspired Werner Herzog to credit the movie as one of the most influential films in the past fifteen years. 25 years later, the DVD of "Land of Look Behind" was finally released in 2007, so act like you know. Paris, Texas

Written by Sam Shepard, directed by Wim Wenders and shot beautifully by Robbie Muller. Amazing music score by Ry Cooder that hovers throughout this masterpiece. Great performances by Harry Dean Stanton and ever so beautiful Natassja Kinski (in pink mohair sweater dress?). Released in 1984, it spoke volumes about life in America... this film feels more relevant than ever before...
